Open Letter to Helene Bergeot and WPN Organized Play

Helene Beregot and the rest of the the WPN Organized Play,

After the announcement of the US WMCQ for 2013, I believe the WMCQ system needs to be completely scrapped (at least in the United States).

The Phyrexian Arena News and Updates

Phyrexian Conquests

First off, I have some congratulations to give out to 2 of our columnists, Eddie Walker and Scott Tompkins.

Both Eddie Walker and Scott Tompkins made Day 2 of the largest Grand Prix in Magic: The Gathering history, Grand Prix Charlotte.

Eddie Walker had an amazing 2 Day run ending the event with a 13-3-1 record, a 22nd place finish in a field of 2963 players.

Scott Tompkins unfortunately lost in Round 10 knocking him from the main event but it certainly didn't stop him from unleashing his fury on the SCG Miami 10K side event.  Scott dropped bombs on his 10K opponents with an 18th place finish in the 623 player side event.

Line Up Shift

We are shifting our line up.  Starting this week both Thirst for Knowledge and Ideas Unbound columns move up one day.

Thirst for Knowledge will now be on Tuesday.
Ideas Unbound will now be on Thursday.

News and Announcements

I promised last week that I had some things in store for you all this week.

First off, I have been working on some products to roll out to promote the brand.

Here are some of the items I'm working on getting in stock:

Stickers

These would be sized to 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches so they could go on deckboxs (or other small items).

Playmats

This just came in today from InkedPlaymats.com and it looks fantastic.  I could not be happier about the product.  I am hopeful that I will be able to start processing orders for these soon.

Life Pads

I am working on these with MtGpad.com.  All I like is getting the logo & slogan at just the right opacity and then the order will be submitted.

Shirts

I am working with Vistaprint on the shirts.  I did a polo for me to see how the printing would go since it is embroidered, not an Iron on patch like most places.  I have to say the embroider emblem looks fantastic.  I am also working on T-Shirts as well

Other Viral Marketing

You guys remember the Poison Counter tokens in Scars block right?  I have the idea to place stickers on the back of the Poison Counter tokens and write "You've Been Infected" on the front.

I am also trying to get an artist to work on doing formal artwork for tokens.

Twitch Channel

We have moved the Twitch channel over under the user Team_Phyrexia.  I have the link above in our menu as well.  This channel will be used by any / all of our columnists for live streaming.

Explore - Tom Versus the Volcano

Charred ash floats hypnotically through the air, resembling a peaceful snow on a cool winter morning. Slowly, melodically, the mild tremor rumbles throughout the quiet world, as if gently waking it to life. The fauna begins to frantically scramble from the base of the mountain, eager to escape the impending plight of the land. At first, the locals are unaware, but the ground seizes. Shouts raise above the hungry growl of nature, alerting the masses to the disaster looming. Beyond the chaotic cries of the general public, the Church of Orzhov works towards a means to bring the disaster to an end. It is a dark end. It is a dreadful end, but it is an effective end nonetheless. Mount Gatecrash has erupted, and the only way to appease the gods, is to offer up a human sacrifice to the volcano.

Ideas Unbound - Pro Tour Gatecrash

Gatecrash has been on the shelves a couple of weeks now, and that means one thing. It is time for the Pro Tour. As a competitive Magic player, I always look forward to the Pro Tour. I get to see the best players in the world compete at the highest level. It gives me the opportunity to study the masters of the game and learn from them.

Thirst for Knowledge - Stay on target...

My plans for this past weekend went down in a blaze of glory.  I had originally planned to go to Roswell, GA for the PTQ Dragon's Maze but due to family issues I couldn't make it but at least I had a backup plan.  My backup plan was to head to my FLGS and play in a Trial for GP Charlotte.  I opened an insane, bomb heavy pool:

Explore - The Love BUG

Good day ladies and gents.  The results from SCG Atlanta are in, and Gatecrash has turned the Standard format on it's ear.  Eddie Walker, from this wonderful site, decided he wanted some spending money, and stormed to the top eight only to lose out to the eventual champion.  Also, as it turns out, Boros Reckoner is the card that was beloved by the masses, and with good reason.  It is an aggressive monster with two excellent abilities... that I completely missed.  Turns out that I did not RTFC, and thought it only dealt damage to players, which while good, is not even close to the board impact that Reckoner provides.  Being able to cleanup the ground and positively interact with Thragtusk is pretty bonkers in Standard.   I normally do not miss really big, and I believe that Boros Reckoner will come down from his lofty climb.  So speculators, I apologize for that one. I missed on him. Now with the pleasantries out of the way, let us take a gander at the winning list from the tournament:

War Report - Eddie Walker - SCG Atlanta Standard Open

I played in the SCG Open in Atlanta this weekend, and managed to finish in 8th.  I am very proud of this accomplishment and is my best performance so far in this game.  I have now achieved one of my Magic resolutions this year, which was to qualify for the SCG Invitational or Pro Tour.  Still working on the Pro Tour side, but I will be attending the SCG Invitational in Atlanta on April 5-7.  What follows is my tournament report from this past weekend.
